May 2017 Meeting Notes

President Ritchie Farrell called the meeting to order. The minutes were read and approved. Treasurer Brenda Lagasse reported the checking and savings.

Ritchie brought it up that the roads around the fairgrounds are developing serious potholes. Aggie Moore volunteered to ask the Fairboard about sharing the cost of grading the roads.

We will have a Work Night on Tuesday, May 9, (begins around 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm) in preparation for the Kyra Voss Memorial Roping and Barrel Race. We need to finish trimming trees, shop vac the crow’s nest, hook up the water to the South Concession Stand, plug the water trough and Brenda volunteered to purchase with the Club’s funds mouse poison and wasp spray.

Activities

Saturday, June 10, is a Showmanship Clinic by Jake Weaver. Free to NCK Saddle Club members, $10 for nonmembers. Purina talk at noon about nutrition. Free lunch for participants (hot dogs and chips). Harness demo.

Sunday, July 2, Concordia City Fireworks and NCK Saddle Club Ice Cream Social at the Arena at 9:00 pm.

Saturday, July 8, Open Show (4-H) begins at 9:00 am. Select classes (showmanship, western pleasure, reining, and some races).

Sunday, July 23, Open Show at 3:00 pm instead of just 4-H Horse Show like in the past.

Cloud County Fair
Denise Bauman asked about the South Concession Stand to use during the Horse Show on Sunday.
Fairboard would like to borrow 2-3 bleachers for a concert during Saturday night of the Fair.

Aggie asked about getting a key for the restrooms at the fairgrounds. We should get one soon. Aggie suggested that we help out by suppling some toilet paper, hand soap, and towels for our events.
It was also mentioned that if the donated manure spreader is used (full or not) it should be emptied so the manure doesn’t get packed in.

High School Rodeo
FFA Clifton-Clyde will take gate money
4-H will run the concession stand
FFA Concordia will set up and tear down the stalls and work during the event
NCK Saddle Club will need volunteers for timers, backup timers, announcers, and run the gates

We have received some sponsor money.

Ritchie would like to purchase tree to plant for shade and to replace a dying tree. A nursery offered a deal, if we buy 2 trees they will give us 4 more trees for a total of 6 trees for the price of 2. Donna Barleen made a motion to talk and see if we can buy 2 trees and have all 6 installed for $1,000. Brenda seconded the motion and the motion passed.
