February 2015 Meeting Notes

President Aggie Moore called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm. There were 20 members present. The minutes were read and approved. The treasurer reported the checking and savings. Brenda Lagasse suggested that we move money from checking to savings. Lance Lagasse made a motion to move money from checking to savings. Jordan Libel seconded and the motion passed with a show of hands.

Board of Directors plan to meet the first of April to go over arena maintenance.

Trail Ride Committee met and planned several trail rides in addition to the second Sunday monthly trail rides. Gretchen Spitz is planning a trail ride in the Jewell area, no date is set. Kandi Buchwald is having a trail ride at Sand Hills State Park on March 21st and 22nd. Shonda Wilson is in contact with a group in Alma, NE on April 18th, there is a fee of $10 per rider and bring a sack lunch to eat on the trail and there will dinner afterwards. Lana Stolzenburg is hosting a trail ride at Rock Creek Station in Fairbury, NE on April 25th and 26th. Brittany Moore is planning a Ladies Trail Ride at Milford State Park on August 8th and 9th. Susan Sterling is planning a trail ride in Oak, NE on September 19th.

Activities Committee met on Thursday, January 22nd and again on Thursday, January 29th. The Kids Buckle Series needed more discussed. Lance made a motion to form a committee for the Kids Buckle Series. Eric Voss seconded and the motion passed. The Ranch Rodeo scheduled for the day after the rodeo was removed. Charlie Hansen made a motion to allow Eric to plan an event on Friday, July 24th. Jordan Libel seconded and the motion passed. It was decided to leave Saturday night of the Fair open to a group to use it.

Rodeo Committee met on Wednesday, January 28th. The stock contractor for the rodeo will be the same expense as last year. It was decided to use Lecile Harris as our entertainer, but Greg Lehmann was contacted by Lecile saying he would be unavailable for that date. The added money for steer wrestling, calf roping, team roping, and ladies barrel racing will be raised by $300, to draw more contestants. It was mentioned that the contract with the stock contractor to mention if there is no qualifying rides that the money be returned to the Club rather than go to the CPRA Finals as we already donate to that. Events in the rodeo will remain Queen Crowning on Wednesday night, Kids Barrels and NCK Saddle Club Drill Team performance both nights, and Wild Horse Race on Thursday night. Jordan made a motion to approve the Rodeo Committee’s plans. The motion was seconded and the motion passed. The next Rodeo Committee Meeting is Monday, February 9th at 6:30 pm at 1427 East 6th Street.

Drill Team Committee met on Saturday, January 10th and Saturday, January 31st. Daniel Robison is requesting all former Drill Team members who still have equipment to please return it. Eric made a motion for the Drill Team to return all equipment by February 15th. Jordan seconded the motion and the motion passed. Prior to the meeting Lana had been requested to bring a written report of last year’s Drill Team expenses. Lana requested that someone to go over the papers with her. Lance volunteered to go over the papers with Lana. With the American Freedom Riders no longer affiliated with the NCK Saddle Club, there were concerns with riders riding on both teams. The Club discussed it and decided that riders could ride on both teams. Eric made a motion for the Drill Team Chairman to report to the Board of Directors of any problems with riders before they are removed from the NCK Saddle Club Drill Team. Brenda seconded and the motion passed. Use of the NCK Saddle Club arena was brought up and Lance made a motion that the NCK Saddle Club Drill Team has precedence in arena usage. Raye Crane seconded and the motion passed.

Unfinished Business:

Placement of the new concrete water tanks was discussed and Charlie had some concerns about the animals getting injured on them. Lance made a motion to have Charlie visit with Jimmy Crowthers about the placement of the tanks and report at the April Board of Directors meeting.

New Business:

Katie Lehmann found a clinician to hold a clinic for reining. He would cost $1,000 for the day. Several ideas were discussed and Katie asked to get interest and talk to the clinician about how the clinic is to be run.

February 13th, 14th, and 15th is Equifest in Park City, KS.

Kansas Horse Council has equine license plates for sale. Membership is not required to purchase one.

Next month Greg Askgrin is going to speak with us about equine hauling laws.
